Open Call: Doorways and Thresholds

The Latin word for threshold is limina. A moment of in-between, of time in stillness. What lies beyond a threshold or doorway is something that cannot be known until the crossing is done.

For many doors have been the catalysts for enormous change, for reasons better or worse.

For some doors have remained closed, locked even, with the key placed purposefully out of reach.

We have opened and closed many doors in our lifetimes. What thresholds have you stood upon? What thresholds do you stand upon now? What doors have you opened and which have remained closed to you?

A threshold can be a place, it can be a memory, an experience, an object, a person, a word. Give us your poems, artwork and stories. Conjure us a door in which we can open and walk through.

"How concrete everything becomes in the world of the spirit when an object, a mere door, can give images of hesitation, temptation, desire, security, welcome and respect. If one were to give an account of all the doors one has closed and opened, of all the doors one would like to re-open, one would have to tell the story of one's entire he who opens a door and he who closes it the same being?"

- Bachelard, Poetics of Space, Pg. 239

"I find myself defining threshold

As being the geometrical place

of the comings and goings

In my Father's House."

- Michel Barrault, Dominicale, vol. I, Pg. 11

We strive to represent a diversity of experiences from all backgrounds. Writers and artists outside a position of sociological privilege (i.e. BIPOC, differently-abled, LGBTQIA+ etc.) are highly encouraged to submit their work.

We offer contributors a chance for their work to be published in a space that is as mindful and beautiful as we can make it, and a copy of the book once it's released. There will also be a space at the end of the book for a 50-word creator bio, where contributors can share any social media or portfolio information.  Please be aware that this is a very small and very new press and whilst we would love to be able to pay contributors for their work, unfortunately, we don't have the means to do this just yet. In return, we will never ask for a submission fee nor hold any exclusive rights to the work we publish.

By submitting your work you are giving permission for it to be published. However, if you should change your mind after submitting, please email us as soon as possible.
